0330 numbers
Charged at your standard geographic rate
Non-geographic but charged like an 01 or 02 landline number, and included in inclusive minutes. Businesses use them for a single national number.
Calls count towards your inclusive minutes in exactly the same way as a call to an 01 or 02 landline, so for most people they cost nothing extra.
A 0330 number is a UK business number that costs the same as calling a normal landline, and the call comes out of your inclusive minutes. If an unknown 0330 number has rung you, it is far more likely to be a company or call centre than a person.
Are 0330 numbers free to call?
Not free, but not expensive either. Under Ofcom's rules a 03 number must cost no more than calling a standard 01 or 02 landline number, and calls are normally included in the free minutes of a landline or mobile plan. If your plan includes UK minutes, a 0330 call uses them like any other call. If you pay per minute, you pay your usual landline rate.
What does a 0330 call cost from a mobile?
Most UK mobile plans count 03 numbers as part of the bundled minutes. On pay-as-you-go without a bundle, you are charged the network's ordinary rate for calls to UK landlines. The exact figure is in your provider's price guide, which is the only place to get the current price.
Who uses 0330 numbers?
Organisations that want one national number that does not point to a town: banks, energy suppliers, insurers, delivery firms and online retailers use them for customer service and for outbound calls. Because the number is not tied to a place, the digits cannot tell you where the caller is.
Is a call from a 0330 number a scam?
Most are not. But 03 numbers are easy for any organisation to rent, which also makes them useful to call centres making unsolicited calls, and the number on your screen can be faked. Treat an unexpected 0330 call like any unknown caller:
- Do not give out passcodes, PINs or full card details to someone who rang you.
- Hang up and call the organisation back on the number printed on your card, bill or its official website.
- Be wary if the caller says there is a problem with your account and you must act immediately.
How to check a 0330 number
Type the full number into the search box on this page. You will see how other people have rated it and what they were told on the call. If nobody has reported it yet, you can add the first report.
