How it works

Three checks before you call back

  1. 1

    Look up the number

Type it in any format, such as (416) 555-0123 or +1 …

  2. 2

    Read the signals

The area or number range, the risk level and reports from other people show what kind of call it was.

  3. 3

    Block or report

Block the number on your phone, then tell us what happened so the next person sees the pattern.

Be the first: search a number that called you and tell others what happened.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Who is calling me from an unknown number?

Type the number into the search box. We show the area or number range it belongs to and what other people have reported. The prefix shows how a number was issued, not who is using it today.

Is it free to look up a phone number in Canada?

Yes. Searching is free and needs no sign-up. You can also add your own report after a call.

Who sent me this text?

Search the sender's number. If the text claims to be from a courier, a bank or an official body, do not tap the link or send money. Check the claim through the official website.

Why did a number ring once and stop?

Short calls that hang up before you answer, often from foreign numbers, are designed to make you call back, sometimes to a premium-rate number. Check an unknown number before returning a missed call.

How do I stop unwanted calls in Canada?

Add your number to the National Do Not Call List (free) at lnnte-dncl.gc.ca, block repeat callers and report scams to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre. Registering does not stop scammers, but it makes illegal telemarketing calls reportable to the CRTC.

Can I search a Canada number from abroad?

Yes. Enter it in national form, such as (416) 555-0123, or in international form such as +1. We treat both the same way.
