What does an 0845 call cost?
Calls to 0845 numbers are charged in two parts, an access charge set by your phone provider and a service charge set by the organisation you are calling. They do not come out of inclusive minutes. Ofcom caps the service charge, and the organisation must state it when it advertises the number.
Is there a cheaper way to reach an 0845 number?
Usually. Many organisations moved to the 03 equivalent, 0345, which costs the same as a landline call. Check the organisation's website for a 0345 or geographic number for the same service. If you only have an 0845 number, searching for the company's name with 'contact' often turns up a cheaper option.
Does an 0845 call mean a scam?
No. Most 0845 numbers belong to established organisations that have used them for years. But if an unknown 0845 number rings you and asks you to call back, check it first, because ringing a chargeable number costs you money.
- Do not give out passcodes, PINs or full card details to someone who rang you.
- Hang up and call the organisation back on the number printed on your card, bill or its official website.
