0871 numbers

Access charge plus service charge
Ofcom caps the service charge at 10.83p per minute excluding VAT.

Commonly used by ticket lines and booking services. Capped at 10.83 pence per minute plus access charge.

Calls to this range are billed as two parts: an access charge set by your own provider, plus a service charge set by the organisation you are calling. Adverts must quote both.

0871 numbers carry a higher service charge than 0870. You pay an access charge to your provider and a service charge to the organisation, and the call is not covered by inclusive minutes.

What does an 0871 call cost?

Like other 08 numbers, calls to 0871 are priced in two parts. The service charge, set by the organisation and capped by Ofcom, is higher than on 0844 or 0845, and your provider adds its own access charge on top. The result can be a noticeably expensive call, especially if you are waiting in a queue.

Where do you find 0871 numbers?

They tend to turn up on ticketing, travel and subscription-style services. Many of these organisations also publish a cheaper 03 or geographic number, so check before you ring.

An unknown 0871 number left a missed call

Do not call back until you have checked it. A missed call from a chargeable number is a common way to get people to ring something expensive.

  • Do not give out passcodes, PINs or full card details to someone who rang you.
  • Hang up and call the organisation back on the number printed on your card, bill or its official website.
