Check the type of number
- 04 numbers are mobiles.
- 02, 03, 07 and 08 are landlines for different states.
- 1300 and 13 numbers are business lines; 1800 numbers are free to call.
- 1900 numbers are premium rate and can be expensive.
Be wary of spoofing
Scammers can make a call look as if it comes from a real business or a local number. If the caller asks for money, remote access or personal details, hang up and call the organisation on a number you have found yourself.
Let it go to voicemail
Genuine callers leave a message. You can also turn on your phone’s spam labelling and silence unknown callers.
