Is 772 a scam area code?
No area code is a scam by itself. Scammers can spoof a number so it appears to come from 772, and genuine businesses in the area also use it. The code only shows where the number was originally issued.
What to do about a call from 772
Do not share Social Security numbers, bank details, verification codes or gift-card numbers with an unexpected caller. Government agencies, banks and utilities do not demand payment by phone in gift cards, crypto or wire transfers. If the call says it is from your bank or a government agency, hang up and call the number on the official website.
Add your number to the National Do Not Call Registry at donotcall.gov, report scam calls to the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov, and search the full number here to see what others have said.
Does the area code show where the caller is?
Not reliably. Scammers and call centers use spoofing to display a local area code because people are more likely to answer. People also keep their number when they move, so a 772 number can belong to someone anywhere.
That is why the full number matters more than the code. If someone has already reported it, you will see it below.
