US toll-free numbers
Toll-free numbers start with 800, 833, 844, 855, 866, 877 or 888. The business pays for the call, so it costs nothing to dial. They are not tied to a place: a toll-free number says nothing about where the company is.
Many real companies use them for customer service, and so do robocallers and scammers. The prefix cannot tell you which, so look up the full number.
