0900 numbers: who called me?
Premium rate, charges apply
0900 numbers are New Zealand premium-rate numbers. Calls cost much more than a normal call.
What 0900 means
0900 numbers are used for information, entertainment and adult services. The cost per minute should be announced before the call is connected. Do not call back an 0900 number you do not know.
If a missed call, text or email tells you to ring an 0900 number, ignore it. Scammers use premium numbers to earn money from every minute you stay on the line.
Why 0900 numbers are risky
The cost is charged per minute or per call and goes on your phone bill, so a short call can cost more than you expect. A legitimate service tells you the price before it connects you. If a text or missed call asks you to ring an 0900 number, ignore it; a genuine business does not need you to pay a premium rate to contact it.
