How to block a number on iPhone and Android
Updated
Blocking takes a few taps. The steps differ slightly between phones.
iPhone
- Open the Phone app and go to Recents.
- Tap the i next to the number.
- Scroll down and tap Block this Caller.
To silence every number that is not in your contacts, open Settings, go to Phone and turn on Silence Unknown Callers. Calls from unknown numbers go straight to voicemail.
Android
- Open the Phone app and go to Recents.
- Tap the number.
- Choose Block or Block / report spam.
On many Android phones you can also turn on Caller ID & spam in the Phone app's settings, which warns you about suspected spam calls. Menu names vary between manufacturers.
Landlines
Ask your provider about call-blocking services, such as BT Call Protect for BT customers. Some phones also let you block numbers from the handset.

Scammers change numbers often, so blocking does not stop a campaign. Reporting the number on this site and following our guide to stopping nuisance calls helps more in the long run.
