Why do I keep getting calls from the same area code?
Updated
If your phone shows several calls from numbers beginning with the same code, for example 0161, 0121 or 01204, it can feel as though someone local is after you. In most cases, it is a business using a block of numbers.
Why the same code appears
- Companies hold blocks of numbers in one area and rotate them as they get complaints.
- Call centres use “local presence” dialling, choosing a number that looks like yours to make you more likely to answer.
- Scammers can spoof any number, including ones from a real local area.
What to do
Search each number on this site to see reports. If many numbers from the same code have been reported, treat the next one with care. Block them on your phone, register with the Telephone Preference Service and do not give out personal details. You can see the page for your own area code to read what others have said.
