National Insurance number scam calls

In this scam, a recorded voice says your National Insurance (NI) number is linked to criminal activity or has been suspended, and tells you to press 1 to speak to an agent. The agent then tries to obtain money or personal data.
The facts
- Your NI number cannot be suspended.
- The government does not call to say it has been compromised.
- You do not pay to “reactivate” it.
What to do
Hang up without pressing any button. Do not call back. Forward texts to 7726 and report the scam to Report Fraud. If you shared bank details, contact your bank straight away.
